The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt following the fatal shooting of two police officers by suspected armed robbers near Poyamirea, a community on the outskirts of Binduri in the Upper East Region.
In a letter released and signed on Sunday earlier, April 13, 2025, by the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the police confirmed
The officers, who were in plain clothes, were said to be traveling on a private motorbike from Bongo to Binduri when they were ambushed by the robbers.
The attackers reportedly made away with the motorbike after the shooting.
The identities of the deceased officers are being withheld until their families are officially informed, in line with custom and tradition.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the families, the regional commander, as well as all officers and men in the region,” the statement read.
The police have assured the public that every effort is being made to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice
We therefore assured the general public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as investigations are still going on. Security has been heightened in the area as the search intensifies.
This follows hours after a man was reportedly killed and his body was burnt, along with a motorbike, in the same area, this renewed violence said to be connected to the long-running Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
According to the local residents, the unidentified victim may have been ambushed and shot before being dragged into nearby dry grasses and burned with the motorcycle he was riding.
A disturbing photo went viral depicting how a shadow of an armed individual was standing near the body.
However, the incident comes after a day Inspector General of Police COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno concluded a visit to the region following deadly clashes in Bawku that left one person dead.
Police have yet to respond to the recent killing, which adds to the heightened concern over the spread of violence from Bawku to nearby districts, including Pusiga and Binduri.
