Justice by Accra-based Gender Violence Court, stationed at the Accra Police Headquarters, has sentenced Nii Baah Afful, who was seen in a viral video assaulting a young woman carrying a baby, to one week in prison.
This follows his second appearance in court on April 9, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Nii Afful will serve his sentence with hard labor at the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.
The incident occurred at Korle Gonno on Thursday, March 20, 2025, after a misunderstanding between the 29-year-old fisherman and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Francisca Aryee, who live together and have two children.
He was subsequently arrested on Friday, March 21, 2025, and earlier remanded two weeks into police custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Francisca attempted to leave for her mother’s house but was assaulted.
The video went viral, depicting how Nii Baah repeatedly struck the woman with a stick after she allegedly told him she had found a new partner who was “more handsome and responsible” and no longer wished to be with him.
