In a historic move aimed at fostering lasting peace in Bawku and its environs in the Upper East Region, leaders of the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities gathered at the Manhyia Palace for peace talks initiated by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene of the Ashanti Kingdom.
The meeting, held under the auspices of the revered Ashanti monarch, forms part of a broader initiative to mediate the long-standing ethnic conflict that has plagued the Bawku area for years.
His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, known for his exceptional role in conflict resolution and national unity, urged both factions to put aside differences and embrace dialogue for the sake of development and harmony.
He emphasized the need for mutual respect, coexistence, and a shared commitment to peace.
The source indicate that the discussions were cordial and focused on addressing historical grievances, promoting mutual respect, and exploring practical paths to reconciliation.
Both sides reportedly expressed willingness to cooperate with the peace process initiated by the Asantehene.
This latest development has been widely welcomed by peace advocates and civil society groups, who have consistently called for traditional authority-led interventions to complement government efforts in resolving the Bawku conflict.
Further engagements are expected in the coming weeks as the Asantehene continues his mediation efforts.
