UG suspends eight students over hall clashes and misconduct.

The Management of the University of Ghana (UG) has taken decisive disciplinary action against eleven students and staff members following a series of misconduct incidents.

Among the sanctions are suspensions, expulsions from university halls, and other penalties. The offenses range from plagiarism and document falsification to involvement in violent clashes between Mensah Sarbah Hall and Commonwealth Hall.

The university’s registrar released a statement detailing the sanctions. Notable cases include:

- Francis Abdul Razak: Suspended for two years for plagiarism.

- Catherine Enwulunwu: Expelled from Akuaffo Hall for aiding a colleague in falsifying documents for hostel registration.

- Eunice Dickson: Dismissed from Akuaffo Hall for occupying a bed already allocated to another student.

Additionally, eight (8) students were suspended for two academic years for their roles in violent clashes between Mensah Sarbah Hall and Commonwealth Hall.

The suspended students listed below:

1. Brown Kevi Kubiti

2. Francis Prempeh

3. Martin Elikem Wlexor

4. Michael Tetteh Kenney

5. Prince Owusu Acheampong

6. Owusu Franklyn Afrifa

7. Stephen Obeng Takyi

8. Nicholas Armah

The university’s decision sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some netizens expressed disappointment in the students’ actions, others questioned the severity of the sanctions, especially for final-year students nearing graduation.

Some of the Comments included:

- @BossDaaga: "They beg."

- @xcell_clain: "Eiii really UG!"

- @Adamshardi11: "This is terrible. Why publish their names for the public to see? What do they gain from disgracing others?"

The university emphasized its commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity on campus.

The registrar, however, highlighted that the sanctioned individuals engaged in activities deemed illegal, including plagiarism, document falsification, and inciting violence.
