Several people, including women and the elderly, have been hurt after an alleged military attack by soldiers from the 11th Mechanized Battalion. This happened as a response to the killing of a soldier in the area on March 17, 2025.
According to witnesses, the soldiers invaded homes of residents during curfew hours, forced people out of bed, and subjected them to physical brutality. Some victims had broken bones, and they were taken to Vineyard Hospital in Bawku for treatment.
The military action targeted some selected areas like Azanga, Mazema, Sabongari, Missiga and some other areas.
The military’s actions are said to be in retaliation for the death of a soldier, who was shot by unknown gunmen. The Assembly Member for Daduri, Rahman Bukari Asaana, condemned the violence, calling it unfortunate.
Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, also condemned the assault on innocent people, especially women, children, the elderly, and young people.
He said such actions were unacceptable and promised to hold the military accountable.
While he condemned the killing of the soldier, Ayariga emphasized that the military should never resort to beating civilians or causing harm to innocent people.
He called for the rule of law to be respected and for the responsible soldiers to be held accountable.
