The Minister for the Interior on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument has imposed curfew on Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region.
According to the statement released and signed by Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the curfew is effective Monday, March 24, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
Government further urged Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Binduri Township from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, men wearing of smock, riding motorbikes and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
The curfew follows a gun attack by unidentified assailants at a drinking spot in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region which left three people dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday night, March 23, 2025, near the Binduri market, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed the drinking spot on motorbikes and opened fire, killing three people on the spot.
