Adum PZ fire update: Frustrated youth clash with fire service personnel over a slow response.

Tensions flared in Kumasi as frustrated youth clashed with personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) over what they described as a delayed response to a fire outbreak at Adum PZ in Kumasi (Central Market), according to a post seen on Metro TV.

The incident, which occurred earlier today, saw a massive inferno engulf parts of the bustling commercial area, destroying shops and properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Eyewitnesses reported that despite multiple distress calls, firefighters arrived at the scene late, further aggravating the situation.

When they finally arrived, the fire had already spread, and many business owners were left helpless as they watched their livelihoods go up in flames. The perceived sluggishness of the fire service enraged some youth in the area, leading to a heated confrontation.

Videos circulating on social media show a chaotic scene where angry residents accused the GNFS of negligence.

Some could be seen shouting at the firefighters, while others attempted to physically assault them, blaming them for the extent of the destruction. Security personnel had to intervene to restore calm.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Ghanaians expressing frustration over the country’s emergency response system

“This is unacceptable! Every time there’s a fire, it’s the same story—late response and no water. When will we fix this?”

“The anger of the youth is justified. People have lost their entire businesses, and the fire service keeps failing us.”

“This is why we need well-equipped fire stations in every major market area. The response time must improve!”

“The problem is deeper than the fire service. Our city planning is poor, and access to these places is always difficult.”

“Every second counts in fire outbreaks. We need to take fire safety and preparedness more seriously in this country.”

“I just hope no lives were lost. This is heartbreaking for the affected business owners.”

Authorities have pledged a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and the response of the fire service. Meanwhile, affected traders and residents are counting their losses, hoping for relief and better preparedness in the future.
