Wale Wale: Interior Minister reviews curfew hours
There is a total ban on all persons in the aforementioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon.
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has reviewed the curfew hours for Walewale and its environs in the North East Region from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, effective Thursday, February 27, 2025.
The earlier hours started from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
According to the official statement issued by the Interior Ministry on Thursday, February 27, 2025, it stated that the minister acted on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council.
In the statement, government called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.
“At this point, there is a total ban on all persons in the aforementioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement said.
The curfew was imposed on the area following the surge of cases of gun attacks on passengers and burning of buses in the Walewale-Wulugu enclave of the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.
Between February 11 and February 15, about 13 travelers, including an infant, were killed, and three buses were burned to ashes in those areas, prompting the Ministry of Interior to impose a curfew.
