KNUST mourns the tragic death of a final-year female student found dead on campus (See Photo)


KNUST has announced the tragic death of final-year student Joana Deladem Yabani. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, urging calm and respect for the bereaved family

A tragic incident has shaken the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) community.

In an official statement, KNUST Management confirmed that Joana Deladem Yabani, a final-year Biological Sciences student, was found lifeless near the Disability and Rehabilitation Centre in the early hours of February 27, 2025.



According to the eyewitnesses suspect that the deceased student may have been attacked by robbers while returning from night studies, as the university is currently in the midst of its mid-semester examination week.

The university's students have been studying late into the night to prepare for their exams, and the incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of students on campus, according to gh.studio report.

University Security Services received the report at approximately 5:00 a.m., after which the body was transported to University Health Services, where she was confirmed dead. The University has since informed her family and extended its deepest condolences.

According to the University, a comprehensive investigation is underway in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The University assured the community that all necessary measures are being taken to ascertain the facts and ensure campus safety. 

KNUST has further urged students and the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family during this difficult time.
