GES officially announces examination dates for 2025 BECE and WASSCE for school candidates (Check Out…)

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the examination dates for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. 

According to the letter released on January 24, 2025, addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, GES has provided the examination schedule to enable schools to adequately prepare their students.

In the press statement 

1. BECE (School Candidates): The examination will take place from Monday, June 9, to Monday, June 16, 2025.

2. WASSCE (School Candidates): The examination is scheduled from Monday, August 4, to Friday, September 19, 2025.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the body responsible for conducting both examinations, will in due course communicate the registration timelines for candidates to the heads of schools across the country.

Call for Preparedness

However, the letter signed by Prince Charles Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, on behalf of the Director-General, Regional Directors of Education have been tasked to disseminate this information to the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.

The purpose is to ensure that all heads of Basic and Senior High/Technical Schools are well-informed and can effectively prepare their students for the upcoming national examinations.

Significance of the BECE and WASSCE

The BECE serves as a crucial examination for junior high school students, determining their placement into various senior high schools under Ghana’s computerized school selection and placement system. 

Similarly, the WASSCE is vital for senior high school students, as it serves as a gateway to tertiary education and employment opportunities.

Both examinations play a fundamental role in Ghana’s education system, assessing students’ proficiency in core and elective subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Expected Actions by Schools and Stakeholders

With the examination dates now set, schools are expected to intensify their preparations to ensure students are well-prepared. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to provide the necessary support and conducive environments for their children to excel.
