The Ghana Education Service has clarified lesson note preparation for pre-tertiary teachers in Ghana.
A letter signed and released by Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, Deputy Director-General, on Friday, 17th January, 2025.
"Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has become aware of some misunderstanding between heads and their teachers in some schools in respect of lesson notes preparations.
Regional Directors are to bring to the attention of District, Municipal, or Metropolitan Directors of Education to ensure that all heads of schools (Basic and Second Cycle) accept both handwritten and electronically prepared lesson notes in both printed and email forms."
As a requirement to teach learners in the pre-tertiary schools in Ghana, it's mandatory for teachers to prepare a weekly lesson plan. Teachers were all required to submit handwritten notes for vetting each week.
However, after the introduction of the New Curriculum, the education Minister stated that teachers can print their lesson notes without handwriting. In many districts, some head teachers and circuit supervisors still force teachers to write handwritten notes.
