A member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, has petitioned the National Executive Council for the removal of the President of the Association, Dr Frank Serebuor.
In the petition dated October 8, he said Dr. Serebuor has flouted Articles 16 and 23(3) of their constitution.
“I write to inform you of my intention of moving a motion for the removal from office of the President of the Association, Dr. Frank Serebour at the Annual General Assembly meeting in Ho in accordance with Article 23 of the GMA constitution,” Dr Abayateye wrote.
According to him, “In line with Article 23(3), the stated charges for his removal are as follows:
1. Unilaterally issuing a statement without recourse to the National Executive Council or the General Assembly, in announcing the non-participation of the Association in organized labour’s strike against illegal mining and its devastating health and environmental effects. This is in obvious contravention of Article 16 of the GMA constitution.
2. The above action brought the association into disrepute in the eyes of the general public and made the association appear duplicitous in the eyes of well-meaning Ghanaians, given our previous positions on illegal mining.”
He assured that the required two-thirds of the general assembly required for this motion to become effective will be mobilized.
“You are enjoined under Article 23 of the GMA’s constitution to include this in the notice for the annual general meeting in Ho from 3rd to 10th November 2024 and to bring this to the notice of the officer involved and the general membership, Dr. Abayateye demanded.
