Gun battle between Police and Customs at Bawku border post
A confrontation occurred around 2:45 p.m. between personnel from the Ghana Police Service and Customs officials lasting over 30 minutes at the Missiga Immigration Service checkpoint in Bawku escalated into a gun battle on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, according to the eyewitness.
Customs personnel insisted on conducting the inspection, leading to a heated standoff between the two agencies.
Military officers were eventually called in to de-escalate the situation.
A video of the incident captured the moment a heated verbal argument spiraled into violence, with gunshots ringing out and bystanders having to flee for safety.
For several minutes, the checkpoint turned into a chaotic and dangerous scene as the two security agencies exchanged fire, raising serious concerns about interagency coordination in protecting Ghana’s borders.
