GES announces release of BECE results 2024 and SHS placement.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced that the results of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be released in the coming weeks of October.
This press update comes following a formal communication from Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of Public Relations at GES, who stated that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has finalized the processing of results and that the placement of candidates into Senior High Schools (SHS) has been successfully completed.
Key Details on SHS Placement
According to the release, out of the 569,095 candidates who qualified for placement, 451,797 have been successfully placed in their selected schools through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
However, a notable number of students made errors in filling out the CSSPS forms, and provisions have been made to rectify these issues. A dedicated WhatsApp number (053 451 7153) has been provided, allowing affected students and their guardians to contact the GES and correct their details.
Examination Malpractices and Withheld Results
The GES further disclosed that WAEC reported several cases of examination malpractices during the marking process. As a result, the results of 10,898 candidates have been withheld for further investigation.
The GES assured that these cases are being thoroughly examined and the outcome will be communicated to the candidates involved.
Self-Placement for Unplaced Students
For candidates who have not been placed in any of their preferred schools, GES has introduced a self-placement option. This will enable students to manually select available schools through an online portal. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to secure placement in a school that fits their preferences.
Verification Process and Deadlines
Students and parents are urged to verify their placement status by sending their details—such as their name and index number—via the provided WhatsApp number. It is important to complete this process before the deadline to ensure a smooth transition into Senior High School.
GES Encourages Stakeholder Engagement
The GES has called on all relevant stakeholders—including teachers, heads of schools, directors of education, parents, and guardians—to reach out if they have any questions or concerns about the placement process. GES emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to ensure that all candidates are adequately placed and any issues are promptly addressed.
