Oti Region GES Directorate invites applications for appointment as Assistant Heads of 2nd cycle schools

Management of the Oti Regional Education Directorate invites applications from suitably qualified persons on the GES payroll and serving in the Oti Region who are goal-oriented and result-driven with good leadership qualities for the appointment as assistant heads of 2nd cycle schools in the Oti Region.

According to an official release dated September 13, 2024, signed by the Caretaker Director of Oti Region, Mrs. Irene Jacquelinda Attabra, the Region’s GES Directorate is inviting applications for appointment of Heads for 2nd cycle schools.

1. Job purpose

Generally responsible for assisting the Headmaster/Headmistress in the implementation of the Pre-tertiary Education Act 2020 (Act 1049) for improved, effective, and efficient education service delivery of policies and circulars of Ghana Education Service in the Oti Region.

2. Key duties and responsibilities

Assistant Head- Academic

i. Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of teaching and learning and particularly ensuring that the timetable is effectively followed.

ii. Responsible for preparing the school timetable with the assistance of the school’s timetable planning committee.

iii. Responsible for organizing both internal and external examinations with the assistance of examinations committee.

iv. Responsible for ensuring that the terminal reports are well completed and dispatched to parents within two weeks after examinations.

v. Ensuring that both teachers and students regularly and punctually attend classes and evening studies (PREP).

vi. Responsible for organizing the school library.

vii. Organizing and chairing the academic committee meetings.

viii. Works closely with other Assistant Heads in the school

ix. Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of School.

Assistant Head – Administration

i. Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the lower-level administrative personnel.

ii. Responsible for the Students’ Representative Council affairs.

iii. Responsible for organizing selection of School Prefects for the various student schedules.

iv. Acts as the School Board’s Secretary.

v. Responsible for handling official correspondence as will be determined by the Head of the School.

vi. Responsible for drafting testimonials and letters of consent and assurances.

vii. Responsible for organizing official academic functions.

viii. Works closely with other Assistant Heads in the school.

ix. Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of School.

Assistant Head – Domestic

i. Responsible for the environment and security of the school.

ii. Responsible for ensuring general discipline among the school community.

iii. Responsible for students’ co-curricular activities eg. Clubs and societies.

iv. Responsible for ensuring that the school properties are kept safe. School properties include furniture, buildings, and the school land

v. Responsible for monitoring the work of the School Nurse.

vi. Responsible for supervising the work of the Senior Housemaster / Housemasters/Housemistress.

vii. Work closely with other two Assistant Heads.

viii. Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of the School.

3. Required Qualification

a) A serving certified graduate professional teacher in the Ghana Education Service.

b) A minimum of first degree in relevant course from a recognized Institution.

c) The applicant must be on a rank not lower than Assistant Director I (ADI) for four (4) years.

d) Must have satisfactory work history.

e) Must be a computer literate.

4. Desired Qualification

An applicant must have held any one or a combination of the following positions:

a) Head of Department for 3 years

b) Senior Housemaster/Mistress for 3 years

c) Guidance and Counselling Coordinator for three (3) years

d) House Master/Mistress for five (5) years

e) Officer at the Regional Education Office for three (3) years

f) Unit Head or SISO at the Municipal/District Education Offices for three (3) years.

5. General Competencies

a) Excellent communication skills in English Languages.

b) Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

c) Knowledge of relevant IT applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

d) Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

e) Excellent report writing skills.

f) Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills Excellent knowledge and implementation of Pre-Tertiary Education Act.

h) Ability to take initiatives and bring innovations.

i) General knowledge and understanding of educational policies especially those related to the job schedule applied for.

6. Terms of Appointment

a) Applicant should be able to serve for a minimum of four (4) years on appointment before reaching the compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

b) Salary and Condition of Service are as laid down by the Ghana Education Service.

7. Mode of Application

a) Relevant Educational Certificates.

b) First Appointment Letter.

c) Last Promotion Letter.

d) Recent passport picture with red background.

e) Personal Record Form duly completed and endorsed by your Head/Director.

f) Curriculum Vitae.

g) Confidential report from your immediate Head/Director.

8. Application Deadline

All applications are to reach the Regional Director of Education, Oti – Jasikan on or before Friday 4th October, 2024.
