The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to investigate the controversies surrounding the African Games hosted by Ghana earlier this year.
The 13th African Games, which took place from March 6 to March 23, 2024, have been mired in scandal and criticism from the local populace.
The Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, is facing significant calls for resignation following revelations that $4.5 million was spent on media accreditation while $15 million was allocated for athlete meals.
According to his manifesto launch in Winneba on Saturday, Mr. Mahama promised that if elected president, he would thoroughly examine the management and expenses related to the games.
To date, the Local Organizing Committee and the Sports Ministry have yet to provide a comprehensive account of the financial expenditures, despite repeated assurances over the past six months.
