EC announces allowances rate for temporal election officialsThe Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that all temporary staff engaged for the voter’s register exhibition and the upcoming elections will be compensated with daily rates ranging from GHS 130 to GHS 2,000.
In a memo issued on August 14, 2024, and signed by the Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, it is stated that supervisors will be paid GHS 2,000, Deputy Supervisors GHS 1,800, and Exhibition Officers GHS 130 per day.
The memo also outlined the allowances for election duties: returning officers will receive GHS 7,000, deputy returning officers GHS 6,000, technicians GHS 2,500, presiding Officers GHS 800, name reference officers GHS 600, verification officers GHS 600, and ballot issuers GHS 600.
The EC made it clear that unlike in prior years, where returning officers and deputies were paid a fixed amount for all election-related activities, in 2024, they will be compensated separately for tasks such as registration, transfers, proxy voting, compilation of the special voter register, and recruitment of officials.
