The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) raises concern regarding Shatta Wale’s behavior towards fellow musician Stonebwoy, who also has a disability. At a recent event, Shatta Wale publicly insulted Stonebwoy and mocked his disability, sparking enragement on social media.
Shatta Wale seems not bothered by the criticism and keeps defending his actions. Due to this, Shatta Wale has received a warning from the GSPD asking him to stop making fun of Stonebwoy's disabilities.
According to the press release, the GSPD condemned Shatta Wale’s actions as irresponsible and potentially harmful to the mental well-being of the physically disabled community. They highlighted a video circulating on social media where Shatta Wale made derogatory remarks about Stonebwoy’s disability, implying that people with disabilities are inherently bad.
The GSPD emphasized that having a disability does not equate to being cursed or punished by a higher power. They called for Shatta Wale to apologize to the disabled community and remove the offensive videos from social media platforms.
However, the GSPD reminded everyone that mocking or making derogatory comments about someone’s disability is a punishable offense under the Disability Act 715. They also pointed out that many of Shatta Wale’s own fans are people with disabilities, questioning whether he considered their feelings when making such remarks.
