The President of Ghana, Akufo-Addo, fired 24 MMDCEs.
The President of Ghana, Akufo-Addo, has officially revoked the appointment of 24 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
This was contained in a letter to the Minister of Local Government and Decentralization, Dan Botwe.
The President said the directive is in accordance with Article 243(3)(B) of the Constitution and Section 20(3)(b) of the Local Government Act, 2014.
According to Akufo-Addo, the directive takes immediate effect, with their replacements to be announced in due course.
The President, in his second term, delayed the appointment of MMDCEs for over nine months.
The development raised concerns about the effective operations of the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.
However, it is unclear what has occasioned the revocation of the appointment of these persons, barely 11 months to the end of Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
