389 police officers graduated from the Public Safety Training School at Pwalugu.

On Wednesday, February 21, 389 police officer graduated from the Police Public Safety Training School at Pwalugu, Upper East Region. The passing out ceremony signified the end of several months of intense training designed to give the recruits skills and knowledge required for efficient public safety and law enforcement.

According to Senior police officers, dignitaries, and recruits' families attended the graduation ceremony, which was a proud and celebratory occasion. Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, stated in a speech that the police administration has created new training modules that combine theory with simulated exercises and field practicals.

However, in this training regime, equal emphasis is now placed on on-field training with practical attachments to gain hands-on experience under the close supervision of senior officers. This is a departure from the past, where emphasis was placed on the recruit’s knowledge of the laws they were expected to enforce when they passed out. Now, the focus is also placed on on-field training activities such as riding, driving, swimming, crowd control, and incident and disaster management, among others.

The review officer, COP Okyere-Darko Asumadu, who read the statement on behalf of the IGP, revealed that the purpose of the new reforms in training modules would be to position the personnel of the service to live up to the legitimate demands of the public for police services that address the security needs of the day.

As the national elections of 2024 draw near, COP Asumadu reminded the recruits of their duty to maintain their neutrality.

"As graduates, you should be aware that Ghana will be organizing general elections during the period you are graduating. As a result, starting on the first day, all of your behavior—including your public statements and actions—must prove your partisan neutrality. One of the best ways we can enhance the public's confidence in us during this election year is by doing this.

The Ghana Police Service disclosed it had established an Election Security Secretariat, the first of its kind to oversee election-related security matters.

COP Asumadu stated, "This has helped in the effective planning and execution of all elections-related security matters."

Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister, urged the public to cooperate with the police in pursuing their duties by cooperating with them and providing information.
