Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is suggesting a significant shift regarding the National Service Scheme: making it optional for graduates.
He states that the restructure will make it easier for graduates who want to start working right away after completing their tertiary degree.
The Vice President made this announcement while outlining his goals for Ghanaians should he win the presidential election on December 7.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I think it's time to reflect on the idea behind our currently national service scheme in order to assist children like us in finding employment. My government will suggest avoiding from national service everyone who can find employment after completing their studies.
Students will no longer be required to perform national service, and they will be free to choose not to. Additionally, this will motivate businesses to visit colleges each year to seek employees, he said.
