Leading Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) in Ghana have declared that by the end of January 31, 2024, agency accounts that are not linked to either Ghana Cards or Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) will be blocked in an effort to improve financial transparency and compliance with tax legislation.
After lengthy negotiations with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), EMIs were given an extension that would allow them to link agency accounts to either Ghana Cards or TINs by Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Starting on February 1, 2024, agent accounts will be automatically blocked if this process is not finished by the deadline.
Concerned agents have been informed immediately of the upcoming changes throughout this campaign by means of a variety of communication channels.
According to a press statement from the Telcos Chamber, agents who have not yet finished the linking process are under a last deadline to take action and should start regularizing their operations right away.
Acknowledging the essential function that mobile financial services play in advancing financial inclusion and stimulating economic growth, EMIs restates their dedication to provide all Ghanaians easy, safe, and affordable access to financial services.
This action contributes to a more transparent and long-lasting financial environment by strengthening regulatory compliance within Ghana's financial sector.
Affected agents are urged to connect with their respective EMIs or stop by operator outlets prior to the deadline for more details and support.
This news release highlights the significance of regulatory compliance for every individual involved in Ghana's financial sector and serves as a reminder of the approaching deadline.
