A VIP bus at the Bolgatanga lorry station caught fire and completely destroyed last night.
The event took place not far from the Bawku truck stop.
It is reported that the tragic tragedy began at midnight.
It was reported that mismatched wires in the vehicle caused the fire to start.
Mr. Shamona Mohammed, a driver, was interviewed by GhanaWeb's Sarah Dubure and provided an eyewitness description of the occurrence.
He said that the fire suddenly burst from the inside and that he thought there was a cable issue.
"It is a wiring problem because we all just saw the fire in front of the car, so we don't know how it started" . He remembered.
He stated that he witnessed multiple persons attempting in vain to contact the Ghana National Fire Service.
"I witnessed people who called about three or five people, and even finally one of our brothers even picked a car and went to the office to call them" . He said
Mr. Shamona highlighted that the situation would not have worsened if they had arrived on time.
He attributed the predicament on the many practical jokes that dishonest individuals pulled on the Fire Service.
"You know, the problem is, some may call them to deceive them so sometimes they may not take the call seriously because people call them and when they get there, they are nothing," he said.
The public was doing so much harm, so he called on them to stop doing that.
"I will advise the people, we should tell the people to stop pranking the Fire Service so that anytime there is a call, they will take it seriously," he said.
He urged the appropriate authorities to educate the public about the consequences of playing practical jokes on the service.
Drivers nearby were able to force nearby cars to safety while the bus was being burned. They were unable to do the same to the nearby burned-out automobile, though.
Its stained glasses were totally rolled up and secured. They attempted to move it by shattering the glasses, but to no avail.
