After a brief five-month tenure, Hearts of Oak and head coach Martin Koopman have chosen to parts ways amicably.
The position was taken over by Dutch manager Koopman prior to the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League season.
The Phobians, who have played ten games, are now ranked 11th in the Premier League standings with 12 points earned from two victories, six draws, and two losses.
The 67-year-old, who had signed a two-year contract, was under increasing pressure after the weekend's goalless draw between Accra Sports Stadium and Legon Cities.
Hearts of Oak formally declared their amicable separation from Martin Koopman in a statement posted on Tuesday evening, responding to mounting rumors.
Following this event, Assistant Coach Abdul Bashiru has been named the interim head coach.
Koopman was unflinching in the face of the team's latest draw with Legon Cities, saying, "Listen, the first thing is that I am not afraid to be sacked." I won't be in this industry if I'm scared of losing my job.
He, however, emphasized his belief in his coaching abilities and expressed confidence in his capacity to work with the team.
After Slavko Matic left the squad the previous season due to fan unhappiness, Koopman took over as manager and had the task of raising the team's performance.
Koopman gained experience working with AS Vita Club, FC Den Bosch, and BV Veendam prior to joining Hearts of Oak.
With an optimistic outlook for the rest of the season, the team, now led by an interim manager, looks ahead.
