GES Scheduled Breakdown of the 2023/2024 Academic Calendar for KG, Primary, and JHS - (Read More...)


 The entire academic calendar for the 2023/2024 school year, which covers kindergarten (KG), primary, and junior high schools (JHS) across the country, was just released by the Ghana Education Service. 

In order to help parents, guardians, teachers, and students prepare for the forthcoming terms, this article offers a summary of the crucial dates that they should remember. 

First Term October 3 to December 22

On October 3, kindergarten, primary, and junior high students return to their classrooms excitedly for a term committed to learning and development. With this first term ending on December 22, there will be ample time for both students and teachers to get started on their studies. 

 Christmas Break December 23 to January 8 

The holidays are approaching after a demanding first term. Students can take advantage of this well-earned break from December 23 to January 8, celebrating the holidays, spending time with loved ones, and resting up for the next semester. 

Second Term: January 9 to April 11

With renewed energy and a fresh perspective, students and teachers reconvene on January 9 for the second term of the academic year. This term continues until April 11, providing an extensive period for focused learning and development.

Second-Term Vacation: April 12 to April 29

As the second term comes to a close, students and educators will have a brief respite. The second term vacation spans from April 12 to April 29, offering an opportunity to relax and rejuvenate before embarking on the final term of the academic year.

Third Term: April 30 to July 25

The last phase of the academic year begins on April 30, as students return for the third term. This term runs until July 25, making it a crucial period for students to consolidate their learning, prepare for exams, and complete their coursework before the year concludes.

End of the Academic Year and Exams preparation 

The scheduled of the academic year comes to an end, parents, teachers, and students can anticipate a well-earned vacation before the following one. Reflecting on the year's accomplishments and making goals for the future are best done during this break.

It is very important to note that schools will operate for seven hours a day, with six contact hours and a one-hour break. Additionally, the Ghana Education Service aims to hold the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the months of September and October. 

Parents, guardians, stakeholders, teachers, and students are advised to mark these dates on their calendars and adhere to the schedule accordingly. Proper planning and preparation will ensure a successful and fulfilling academic year for all.
