Bawumia Won 14 Out Of 16 Regions in NPP Primaries, 2023.



Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won 14 of the 16 areas in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries, according to official results from the Electoral Commission (EC).

Dr. Bawumia won by a wide margin in every region, with the exception of the Volta and Central regions.

After defeating the Vice President in a few key areas and constituencies, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong took second place.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former minister of agriculture, and Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former member of parliament for Mampong, placed third and fourth in the primaries, respectively.  

The breakdown of the regional results shows that Agyapong won 5,850 votes in the Volta Region and Bawumia received 4,984.

Agyapong received 4,800 votes in the Western Region, while Bawumia received 7,465 votes.

Agyapong received 10,828 votes in the Central Region, while Bawumia received 6,159 votes.

Strong support from the Ashanti Region helped Bawumia win with 22,205 votes compared to Agyapong's 11,390.

Bawumia garnered 4,878 votes in the Upper West Region compared to Agyapong's 1,084 votes. Bawumia received 13,387 votes in the Eastern Region, while Agyapong received 6,794 votes. 

In light of these outcomes, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is now the NPP party's leader heading into the general elections in 2024.
