An enraged crowd is said to have killed a 47-year-old man after accusing him of stealing two birds from the Atwima Koforidua New Site.
The police have described the deceased, known as Kwadwo Tawiah, as a notorious felon who terrorized people with his illicit activities.
Eyewitnesses claim that Tawiah took two birds, but luck escaped him because he was caught and killed by a mob.
When they saw Tawiah's body, Kwabena Appiah, a cab driver and committee member of the Atwima Koforidua Electoral Area, and Paa Kofi informed the police.
"After receiving the information, the complainant and the Abuakwa District Day Patrol Team went to the scene. Police discovered a male adult laying in supine in a pool of blood. He was wearing a blue pullover and black pants.
People who were encountered at the scene identified the deceased as Kwadwo Tawiah, who was about 47 years old and from Atwima Koforidua, according to a police report seen by the newspaper.
The report stated that when the dead's body was examined, "wounds suspected to be gunshot wounds were found at the right calf and buttocks of deceased," and that two bird carcasses had also been discovered nearby.
According to a police preliminary investigation, the victim, who had been shot with a gun, was accused of stealing the birds. The suspects are being targeted for arrest.
