GES intends to close down schools in Keta (See Photos)

Ghana Education Service (GES) to close down schools in Keta due to the recent floods brought on by the overflow from the Akosombo Dam. This is one of the most important requests from the residents of Keta. A town called Mepe in the Volta Region has experienced a displacement of over 400 people, signaling the seriousness of the situation.

There is no way a person could live in those conditions, when houses have been swamped by the water. After the Volta River Authority (VRA) administration warned Ghanaians to expect additional spills due to the amount of water that has been stored in the Akosombo Dam, the situation became more scarier.

According to the management of the Volta River Authority, The water in the dam has exceeded its limit, and there is no other alternative but to cause the water to flow out of the Akosombo Dam. Either they maintain the water in the dam so that it crashes or release more water from the dam.

Either they maintain the water in the dam so that it crashes or release more water from the dam. The Akosombo Dam has been our major source of electricity in Ghana, and watching for the dam to crash will bring serious havoc to the country. Therefore, the best solution is to expel more water from the dam.

On the other hand, the Akosombo Spillage is causing huge danger to some residents in the Volta and Oti Regions of Ghana. Given this, the need for GES to close down schools in Keta is obvious.

A youth activist from Nukpesekope, a district within Keta in the Volta region, Mr. Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, has made an earnest plea to the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the locality, urging the temporary closure of schools. This is a good call, and it is of great hope that schools in those affected areas will be closed down by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
