In the Kayunga District of central Uganda, two men were killed by a crowd after being charged with stealing a motorcycle.

Picture courtesy of: The police commander for the Kayunga District, Ms. Rosette Sikahwa, reported on Friday that two suspects had been caught in the village of Namakandwa, Kangulumira Sub County, after being pursued from the Buikwe District, where they were accused of stealing a motorcycle.

They were captured, and after beating one of the victims to death, they torched the other. When the police arrived, one of the remains had been completely burned, according to Ms. Sikahwa's public statement.

The DPC asserts that neither the victims' nor the alleged motorcycle thief's identities have been established

The police estimate that the ages of the deceased range from 30 to 40 years old. According to the DPC, a murder case has been opened, and further inquiries are currently being conducted.

They were reportedly riding a stolen motorcycle when they were killed, but its whereabouts are still unclear. Relatives of the dead who were found at the Kayunga central police station, where they had gone to record statements, claimed the death was a case of mistaken identity.

They said the motorcycle the mob stole was slightly different in registration number from the one the deceased were riding.
