Three-storey building collapse at Ofankor Market closer to Asofan in Accra (Watch Video)

Three-storey building behind the Ofankor Market closer to Asofan in Accra has collapsed.

A Police Situational Report incident revealed that it was about 11.20 GMT on Saturday, September 23, 2023, the police received information that three storey-building collapsed at the Ofankor poultry farm in Accra.

The residents around that area suspect the previous day’s heavy rains that might have caused the building to collapse.

A worker on the site detected that the building was about to collapse and raised an alarm, prompting everyone to run away from there.

However, the Ghana National Fire Service's (GNFS) investigation into the matter

According to the GNFS spokesperson, ADO1 Alex King Nartey, “The tenants said there was no one trapped in the building.

They said that for about six months now, no work has been going on in the building. But then, when we talked to a neighbor, he said there was someone plastering, and when he figured out that the building was about to collapse, he rush out and called people out.

However,  I think the tenants are being economical with the truth, obviously to protect their landlady.

“The main cause of the collapse has not been confirmed, but I doubt if proper building materials were used were adhered to.

Mr. Nartey stated, “The tenants were believing that due to yesterday’s heavy rains, that brought the whole building down.”

The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday, September 23. There were no casualties.
