The University of Education Wineba (UEW grading system has been set to rank the students graduating from the university this academic year. This system sets students into different classes of degree, ranging from first class, second class (upper and lower division), or pass.
The University of Education Winneba (UEW operates a combination of continuous assessment and end-of-semester examination systems with the following weightings:

END-OF-SEMESTER EXAMINATION: 60%
The continuous assessment component consists of take-home assignments, class quizzes and tests, term papers, and project work. This component gives students the chance to demonstrate their abilities on a wider variety of learning tasks and in a broader variety of work environments than is possible under formal examination conditions. For example, through continuous assessment, students can learn the values and processes of teamwork and plan and solve real-life problems.
Duration of the End-of-Semester Examination
The duration of the end-of-semester examination is determined by the credit weighting of the course; the pattern is as follows:

The university uses letter grades and numerical weightings corresponding to the letter grades. The numerical weightings reflect the quality of performance. Total numerical weightings reflect the quality of performance. Total raw scores (a combination of continuous assessment and end-of-semester examination) are converted according to the following scheme:

To calculate your GPA, divide the sum of the total credit value by the sum of the total credit hours for that particular semester.
GPAs are semester-specific.

CGPA Formulae
This is for the total number of semesters a student has taken examinations at the university.
• All levels carry equal weight.
• CGPA = total GPTs of all courses taken/total number of credits of all courses taken
• Assuming you’ve taken an examination in Level 400 second semester, the GPTs and credits will be calculated from L100 first and second semesters, L200 first and second semesters, L300 first and second semesters, and L400 first and second semesters.

Undergraduate degrees are classified according to the candidate’s cumulative grade point average (C.G.P.A.). The degree classification is as follows:

Candidates for a degree must satisfy the following requirements:
- Pass all compulsory core courses (general, faculty, or departmental compulsory core courses);
- Meet inter-faculty course requirements;
- Accumulate a minimum of 120 credits (including advanced credits);
- Attain a minimum cumulative grade point average (C.G.P.A.) of 1.0;
- Settle all financial and other obligations to the university;
- The student should be in good standing, not barred for disciplinary reasons.
Time Limits for the Completion of Programmes
The time limits for the completion of programs are as follows:
- Four-year program: minimum of 4 years, maximum of 5 years;
- Three-year program: minimum of 3 years, maximum of 4 years;
- Two-year program: minimum of 2 years, maximum of 3 years
A student who is unable to complete a degree program within the time limit would be withdrawn from the university. The university reserves the right to make curricular changes (add and/or delete courses) and require the student to meet the new course requirements, but as a rule, the student will be required to follow the curriculum in force at the time he or she was admitted to the university.
