Students In Tears For Unable To Write The BECE Exams 2023, After Headteacher Allegedly Squandered Registration Fees - Parents Revealed [Watch Video]

Students In Tears For Unable To Write The BECE Exams 2023, After Headteacher Allegedly Squandered Registration Fees.

Students of the Buduatta DA JHS in the Central region's Gomoa East district have been in tears since they were unable to write the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with their parents blaming the headmaster of squandering their registration fees.

Students are in tears because they are unable to write the BECE, and parents claim that the headmaster squandered fees.

In Adom News reports, some parents are shown consoling their tearful children while bemoaning how the children worked hard to prepare for the examinations but it all went to waste.

The 2023 BECE started today, Monday, August 7, 2023.

Over 600,000 candidates are expected to take the exam, which will take place from today to Friday, August 11, 2023. This year's result indicates a 5.4% rise over the previous year.

According to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), there are roughly 300,323 males and 300,391 females from both private and public Junior High Schools among the candidates. The exam will be held at 18,993 educational institutions, with 2,137 centers authorized to accommodate candidates.

In addition, the Government of Ghana paid the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) GHS55 million for the preparation of the BECE and WASSCE.

Ms. Winifred Ampiaw, WAEC's Public Relations Officer, revealed that the money received thus far total GH10.5 million for BECE and GH40 million for WASSCE.

The payment was made after the Minority in Parliament expressed concern about WAEC's outstanding indebtedness.

The Minority Spokesperson on Education, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, voiced grave worry about WAEC's urgent need for more than GH50 million to meet its financial obligations and enable the smooth conduct of the impending 2023 exams.

He emphasized WAEC's current issues, citing the government's refusal to provide funds for compensating persons who offered services during the 2022 WASSCE.
