A downpour on Wednesday induced havoc in the North East Region's Mamprusi district.
Parts of West Mamprusi and East Mamprusi have been flooded as a result of the four-hour rainfall on Wednesday morning August 9, 2023.
Many houses, farmlands, livestock, and valuable items have all been washed away by flood waters.
Some of the communities affected include Gaagbini, Tinguri, Mimima, Kuruguduri, Walewale, and Nalerigu townships.
Walewale, the West Mamprusi Municipal Capital, has been cut off from Nalerigu, the regional capital, as a bridge at Gaagbini and a dam at Tinguri have been swept away by the floods, making the main road linking the two towns inaccessible.
The situation has rendered some residents of the affected communities homeless.
Many passengers traveling from Walewale to Nalerigu and adjoining towns have also been left stranded.
Nalerigu remained inaccessible as of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) were in the region to examine the situation and rescue the victims.
Yidana Zakaria, North East Regional Minister, and Issahaku Aremeyaw Somo, West Mamprusi Municipal Chief Executive, visited the affected communities yesterday afternoon to examine the situation and express condolences to the victims.
He has subsequently asked NADMO officials and assembly engineers to do their assessment as soon as possible and provide the findings to his organization for the necessary measures.
In a video capturing a heavy rain fall at Tinguri Gbani, with at a least 10 minutes walk to Wale Wale in the Northern Region, a lot of properties destroyed dues to the rainfall.
