GNAT supports the re-implementation of Corporal punishment in schools.


The assault case at Adisadel College has reignited calls for the implementation of corporal punishment in schools. Over the last two weeks, Adisadel College, Labone SHS and other Senior High Schools have been in the news for incidents of indiscipline  

In 2019, all corporal punishment was banned by the Ghana Education Service, and all pre-tertiary institutions were told to adopt the "Positive Discipline Toolkit" instead.

 However, some members of the public have raised an issue with this,      blaming the GES decision for improving indiscipline in schools.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has reiterated its call for the re-implementation of corporal punishment in schools and stated that this must go along with empowering teachers. 

 The General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah, also added that calls for re-implementing Corporal punishment in Schools to instill discipline
