At approximately 600,714 candidates are scheduled to take this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) For School and Private Candidates on Monday, August 7th, 2023.
According to the West African Examination Council (WAEC), they are expected to end on Friday, August 11, 2023 across the country.
"A total of six hundred thousand, seven hundred and fourteen (600,714) candidates entered for the school examination, including three hundred thousand, three hundred and twenty-three (300,323) males and three hundred thousand, three hundred and ninety one (300,391) females from eighteen thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine (18,993) participating schools," the Council stated.
However, In a statistical analysis of the progress the country is making, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) revealed that there has been an increase in the number of candidates who are sitting for the exam this year as compared to the year 2022.
The number of candidates who registered for this year's BECE (SC) is 8.8% greater than the number of candidates that registered in 2022 (552,276). Concerning the BECE for Private", the announcement indicated.
Meanwhile, on Monday, July 31, 2023, the 2023 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates commenced.
According to WAEC, this year's entry figures are up "by 5.8% compared to the 2022 entry figure of 422,883."
"The exam is being held in 834 locations across the country." Prospective applicants might choose from sixty (60) disciplines, including four (4) core subjects and fifty-six (56) electives, according to the statement.
The exam attracted 447,204 candidates, including 211,834 males and 235,370 girls from 975 schools, according to the statement.
