Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, Chairman of the Sports Directorate of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), disclosed in an exclusive one-on-one interview to Radio Windy Bay 98.3 FM that approval has been given by management for the construction of an ultra-modern sports complex to further entrench the position of UEW as a center of excellence in sports.
Prof. Sarpong stated in an interview that, the mega-project for UEW will likely have a sod-cutting ceremony in September of this year 2023 to carry out the work. He also added that the project will help the university generate more revenue, discover more sports talent, and solidify UEW as one of the top tertiary education institutions.
According to Prof. Sarpong, known as Papa Zeq by the sports family (Amalgamated-UEW), the mega-sports complex will comprise a standardized Football field with Tartan Tracks, astro turf for Field Hockey, two (2) Volleyball Courts, two (2) Netball Courts, two (2) Tennis courts, Handball courts, a Swimming Pool, and other ancillary facilities as well.
However, Prof. Sarpong also said that the management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has already made an amount of two-point-one million Ghana cedis (GH 2.1 million) available to commence the project coming 2025.
