Police Arrest Woman For Physically Assaulting Aged Mother
Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said Udeugbo has been arrested and would undergo prosecution.
A 50-year-old woman, Ukamaka Udeugbo, who was seen in a viral video flogging and kicking her 75-year-old mother, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command.
The elderly woman who was assaulted by her daughter has also been handed over to the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Social Welfare.
The unfortunate incident happened at Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, where the suspect was captured on video beating her mother, whom she accused of defecating in the house.
The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, has also drawn condemnation from many people.
Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said Udeugbo has been arrested and would undergo prosecution.
The police spokesperson stated: “Operatives attached to Abagana Division have also rescued the aged woman being cruelly treated by another woman at Umudunu village, Abagana. She has been handed over to the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Social Welfare.
“The suspect, Ukamaka Udeugbo, 50, turned out to be her biological daughter in a video clip that went viral. The suspect who flogged the n3ked, aged woman repeatedly and threw buckets of water on her while she was lying on the floor has been arrested and detained for prosecution.
“Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye has directed the transfer of the case to the State CID in the public interest and has authorized that the aged woman be handed to the Commissioner for Women Affairs for adequate care by the state government. The suspect is to be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.”
