Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly embarks on demolition exercises in the Upper East Region.

Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly embarks on demolition exercises in the Upper East Region.

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has embarked on demolition exercises within the Bolgatanga township. The exercise targets buildings on roads as well as unapproved structures scattered in some areas within the town.

Speaking to the media, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Rex Asanga, said the aim of the exercises is to ensure sanity and discipline in the municipality.

According to MCE, the assembly took the firm decision to demolish these structures after identifying some structures that were illegally constructed for the past few months.

Mr. Asanga stated that the owners of the affected structures were all duly notified with letters months before the exercises.

“We embarked on this exercise today on various structures that are not supposed to be there; we have some structures that are on roads, structures that do not have permits, and all that. So over the past month we have been identifying these structures, and firm decisions have been taken to demolish them.”

The Bolgatanga MCE further serves notice that the assembly will not in any way relax on the demolishing exercise until all unapproved builds and structures are removed.

Mr. Asanga admonished residents and business owners to desist from putting up structures at unapproved locations in the municipality.
