The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) President appeals to feuding factions in Bawku to make peace.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called for an end to the ongoing feud in Bawku to create a peaceful environment that would facilitate effective teaching and learning. In an interview on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show with Mark Smith, the National President of GNAT, Rev. Isaac Owusu, highlighted the need for a peaceful environment for teachers to operate in.

"Look at what is happening in Bawku; it affects everybody, including the teacher. Because the teacher is supposed to work in a peaceful environment. If I go to work and there’s no peace at the place I teach, how will I be able to do the work?" Rev. Isaac Owusu said

Rev. Isaac Owusu emphasized that without peace, proper teaching and learning cannot take place. He also noted the importance of a peaceful environment for the educational development of children and its impact on the future of the country. He, therefore, called on the President of Ghana, His Excellency, to intervene and appeal to the people of Bawku to let peace prevail.

"I am expecting the number one gentleman of this land, His Excellency, to appeal to our family members, our brothers, the chiefs, and the people of Bawku to let peace prevail because the children there are future teachers, future journalists, future ministers, or even a future president in Bawku," Rev. Isaac Owusu added.

The appeal from the Ghana National Association of Teachers echoes the concerns of many stakeholders in the region, who have called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict to enable the provision of essential services, including education, to proceed unhindered.
