How tiger nuts can help cure urinary tract infections (UTI)

How tiger nuts can help cure urinary tract infections (UTI)

Tiger nuts, or "Hausa groundnuts," as they are often known, are a popular snack among Nigerians. Tiger nuts are used by many people, including diabetics, for their sweetness and high arginine level, which is thought to increase the synthesis of insulin.

According to a recent study, nut fruits should be consumed more frequently to both prevent and treat urinary tract infections.

Experts assessed the tiger nut extracts' antioxidant (vitamins A, C, and E) and antibacterial properties against microorganisms that cause human urinary tract infections. These are Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli.
The susceptibility of these pathogenic microorganisms to the tiger nut extracts was evaluated in comparison to that of gentamicin, which served as a positive control. The methanol extract was determined to be the most effective out of all the plant extracts that shown

antibacterial activity against the chosen microorganisms at varying doses. Additionally, the antioxidant vitamin composition of the various tiger nut extracts showed that they contained a sizable amount of these vitamins.

However, the concentrations of these vitamins were considerably higher in the methanol extract, with Vitamin E exceeding the daily recommended intake by international standards in both extracts.
The study published in the Journal of Agroalimentary Processes and Technologies involved Imaobong E. Daniel and Etukudo Edigeal D. at the Department of Chemistry, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and it was to authenticate the medicinal importance of tiger nut.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) affect any part of the urinary tract, which could be the kidney, ureter, bladder, or urethra. The causes of UTIs include sexual intercourse with infected persons, poor hygiene, holding urine longer than necessary, underlying kidney stones, diabetes, and loss of estrogen.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common medical condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide each year. UTI symptoms are thought to affect roughly 35% of healthy people at some point in their lives, with women being affected more frequently than males.

Unfortunately, these germs have gradually developed resistance to these drugs due to the indiscriminate and improper use of most commercial antimicrobial drugs commonly used in the treatment of infectious diseases.
