The National Association of Gonjaland Students (NAGS - UEW) was fully represented at the First Northern Students Association Meeting, 2023.
On Saturday, April 15, 2023, the Northern Students Association held its inaugural meeting, and NAGS-UEW was there. Thanks to Kuri Kaayi Bashiru and the assistance of other members, the long-abandoned association is currently reviving.
The President Adam Abdul-Aziz, the Secretary Olu Jakpa, and the Chief Tahiru Abdul Wadud Dawale represented NAGS UEW.
The NAGS UEW president provided the following input on this occasion:
1. The need for a working constitution to govern the affairs of the association
2. The need to get an executive board that will see to the establishment of the constitution
3. The need to strengthen the bond and unity that exist among the various unions across the five northern regions
4. The need to unite our sub-unions, which will go a long way toward fostering unity among the biggest northern umbrella both on and off campus,
As the discussion went on, our president's suggestions were very much appreciated and taken into consideration.
A number of issues were brought up, namely the necessity for Northerners to constantly present a unified front before the SRC elections, which will benefit us in the long run. Due to this, the Northern Caucus will gather together to nominate individuals for various school positions, and all of the members are expected to band together to support that effort.
As the meeting progressed, a proposed lineage was made for the establishment of the executive board, which all members present assented to, and hence the executive committee was formed.
The lineage is as follows:
All five regions of the North will have a chance to provide information to the president of the association once it gets to your lineage. A balloting was done to determine which association will have the first taste of the presidential position, and the rest will follow in the order of the number they picked.
At the end of the balloting, the UPPER EAST Students Union picked number one, which means the president will come from them first, Savannah, which is NAGS, picked number two, meaning the vice president should come from NAGS, DaSa picked number three, and UPPER WEST picked number four. But there was no member representing North or East, hence the fifth ballot was for them.
After all the concerns from the various unions in the five northern regions, an executive committee was constituted to oversee the affairs of the association.
Our president, Adam Abdul-Aziz, was appointed as a council elder for the association, our chief, Tahiru Abdul Wadud Dawale, was appointed as the vice president of the association, our secretary, Olu Jakpa, was appointed as the financial secretary of the association, and Lata Felicity was appointed as the deputy organizer of the association.
It is a great honor for NAGS-UEW. Four appointments on the executive board are enough for our voice to be heard.
I entreat all NAGS-NEW members to come to the aid of the appointed executive for the forward march of our beloved association.
Long live NAGSUEW and long live NORSA.
