In the Greater Accra Region’s Mallam suburb, a suspected armed robber was severely beaten by a group of youths. According to reports, the suspect and another accomplice approached a mobile money agent with the intent to rob her. The two individuals allegedly assaulted the agent and made off with her bag containing cash and other valuables.
According to eyewitness that a driver who tried to assist the agent was threatened with a gun, and warning shots were also fired. As the suspects fled the scene, their vehicle collided with a joint where a woman was selling oranges. One of the alleged robbers fell and was unable to escape.
A group of young men who witnessed the incident rushed to the scene and apprehended the suspect, brutally beating him until he was barely conscious and suffered multiple injuries. The police were later called to the scene and arrived on the spot.
Some residents in the region have complained about motorcycle riders stealing their valuables at night. They have voiced their concerns about walking with valuable items at night, as they could become targets for thieves who may attack and seize their belongings.
