Ghana Premier League: Asante Kotoko has confirmed owing players two months’ salary.

Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko’s Brands and Communications Manager, David Obeng Nyarko, confirmed owing its playing staff two months’ salary.

David Obeng Nyarko clarified the situation in an interview with Sompa FM, a local radio station.

While refuting media reports that the club owed four months’ salary, Nyarko acknowledged that it was not ideal for a strong institution like Kotoko to owe its players for two months.

However, he confirmed that the club has begun making payments and intends to clear all arrears.

"The salary arrears are for two months, and we’ve started making payments, and we are going to clear all arrears," Nyarko told Sompa FM.

"It is not ideal for a strong institution like Kotoko to owe players for two months, but the club is making strides to pay them all."

As of now, Kotoko is trailing the Ghana Premier League leaders, Aduana FC, by a margin of eight points.

However, the recent 3-0 loss to Berekum Chelsea has raised concerns about the team’s commitment, possibly due to the salary arrears issue.
