Lya Nifemi, a married lady, has described her close call with death, which was brought on by domestic abuse (Violence) in her marriage.
The mother of four described how, while she was sleeping, her husband Awelewa attempted to kill her at Powerline, Ijoka in the Akure South Council region of Ondo State.
According to Vanguard, Awelewa sliced his wife's neck deeply while she slept in an effort to kill her. But his neighbors managed to save the wife.
Awelewa is alleged to have left the residence days after the incident before coming out when family members intervened.
Following the intervention of friends and the victim's father-in-law in their marriage's problem, the victim described her ordeal.
As the suspect allegedly plunged into a well, a small drama also occurred at the meeting to settle the couple's disputes.
He was accused of making an attempt on his life because, according to what he had taught at the meeting, the father-in-law had set up a trap for his arrest and told the police about his attempt to kill his wife.
The lady described her trauma, saying: "My husband threatened to kill me at midnight because I wouldn't lend him additional cash after he didn't pay back the one he had earlier collected.
"After I demanded that he pay the earlier debt of roughly N200,000 and the debt he is also owing our neighbors, he almost killed me when I refused to give him more money. I had medical attention there for four days.
In the midst of their reconciliation meeting on Friday at around 3:00 p.m., according to an eyewitness, the husband plunged into the well.
"The man said that after failing in his attempt to kill his wife, he then decided to kill himself and put an end to everything because of personal struggles and the fact that his wife is no longer true to him.
Because the man has never had a job and has always relied on his wife, I also believe that. He lost his temper and felt down. Additionally, it was said that he has taken out numerous loans and is unable to pay them back.
"On the day of the gathering with his buddies and the father-in-law, he showed up and left the meeting midway through.
Later, we overheard shouts claiming that Awelewa had jumped down into a well. It took several hours for friends to come to his aid.
"He later claimed to those who took him to the hospital that he had made the decision to end his life after noticing some unusual faces at the meeting and believing the father-in-law had called the police to arrest him for allegedly trying to kill the daughter.
His father-in-law requested that the man be taken into custody by the police because, if released, he might conduct another horrible act as he was being rushed to the hospital.
The state capital of Akure's Ala Police Station received a report of the occurrence later on.
When contacted, Funmi Odunlami, a state police image maker, stated that the state headquarters had not yet received a briefing on the incident.
