UTAG - Our Strike Continues Unabated

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG),  Says it's members will not to lecture hall until the government meets  their demand for better working conditions.

The union's members have been on strike for more than three weeks because, in their opinion, the government has failed to uphold the agreed-upon conditions of service.

The implementation of the GH10.99 adjusted ex-pump rate to influence Vehicle Maintenance and Off-Campus Allowances had aroused concerns from the union.

UTAG has decided to exempt from the strike those necessary services designated by the various local unions and association branches.

In its Base Pay negotiations with Organized Labor, the government must take them seriously. Given the current rate of inflation and the economic plight of the average Ghanaian worker, UTAG fully endorses the proposal for a base pay increase of 60 percent and a relativity increase of 2 percent, respectively, and urges all labor unions in Ghana to continue to be steadfast allies in the fight for a living wage and better working conditions.

An analysis of the 2023 Budget Statement by UTAG indicates that additional austerity measures would be imposed unilinearly, which will likely have a detrimental effect on the already struggling public sector workforce. We agree with the numerous requests to reduce government spending as a sacrifice to try to stabilize the economy.

The resolutions were passed following a two-day meeting conducted between Monday, November 28, and Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, Bono Region, according to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the organisation.
