Being in Jail felt like Vacation - Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale, a dancehall musician, has said that when he was detained and imprisoned, he felt at home.

According to what some may think, he explained that he was not humbled by the experience.

The President of the Shatta Movement explained that he received the same treatment from the prisoners as he had in the past from his supporters.

He claimed in an interview with TV3's Showbiz 360 that the prisoners were anxious to meet him and that some even went so far as to serve him.

"When I was locked up, I genuinely felt at home. Because people have been there for 30 years there, no one has ever seen Shatta Wale. They therefore brought me water as soon as they saw me. Others brought me food (mostly from their visitors). It was the same in the jailhouse as when people meet me on the streets and bow down, he said.

It wasn't like they sent me there to suffer, he said; rather, it was like a vacation. I wasn't all that humbled by it.

Following a hoax shooting incident that he started, Shatta Wale was detained and placed on detention for seven days after one Bishop Stephen Akwasi predicted that the musician would pass away in a manner similar to that of South African reggae legend Lucky Dube.

He later entered a guilty plea to the dissemination of fake news and was found guilty by the Accra High Court.

The Court that His Worship presided over Emmanuel Essandoh gave the musician a non-custodial sentence and a GH2,000 fine.
