The nine-year-old girl who spent nearly six months in the hospital after her stepmother literally roasted her hand in Goaso in the Ahafo area has been released from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Lately, out of concern for an amputation, Stephanie's failing hand was brought to the notice of health professionals.
Her hand has been rescued thanks to a series of operations and therapies that were mostly funded by the management of Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited and other contributors.
However, doctors advise her to undergo a series of physiotherapy sessions in order to regain some finger function.
"The hand was virtually cooked when she first arrived. Even though we didn't succeed completely, I believe we were able to increase the hand's functionality.
"Now that she can use her fingers to write or pick up objects, we'll keep working on improving the function of her hands through hand therapy. We might need to perform a few correction procedures here and there in the future, but for the time being, I believe that what we have is fairly adequate, said Dr. Emil Tano, head of the plastic surgery department at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital.
Though relieved and appreciative of her release, Stephanie is concerned about the state of her hands right now.
She said to Erastus Asare Donkor of Luv FM, "I want my fingers to be able to open wide."
Doctors tried their utmost to restore Stephanie's hands to health, according to Esther Nyarko Boateng, principal nursing officer in charge of KATH's D2C Burns Unit.
"We've made it this far, which isn't the best, but it's one of the best outcomes given how the accident occurred. We couldn't do anything for her because it arrived very late," she said.
She received donations from people like the accused's husband and the Wadoma Foundation.
Her surgery and maintenance were paid for by Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited.

Mensin's sustainability manager, Emmanuel Aiddoo, said, "At Mensin, we look at some of these things that are heartbreaking and need intervention for the survival of the needy, and the Board and Management were happy to support and make sure we provided the required support to make sure that Stephanie regains her hands."
Stephanie's hands were placed in boiling water by the suspect, a female teacher at Goaso, for removing her $2 without authorization.
The instructor, Ellen Serwaa, was also charged with allowing Stephanie's injury to worsen at home in the Ahafo regional town of Goaso for many days before seeking medical attention.
The woman who was the target of the abuse and has subsequently been appearing in court is still being prosecuted by police, who are prepared to do so.
