When the car in which they were traveling was set ablaze by unknown intruders, three chiefs from Ellembelle and their driver were injured.
Nana Anokyi IV, Chief of Anokyi, Nana Akpanye Armo II, Chief of Awiaso, and Nana Blaychie, Chief of Ekpu, all of the Western Region's Ellembelle District.
They were believed to be returning to their homes after witnessing the successful installation of Nana Amenkyi Fabin V as the new chief of Agyambra.
Mr. Kwame Mensah, the driver of the car with the registration number GR 2304-12, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that a roadblock had been set up at the rubber plantation at Agyambra en route Nyamebekyere, also known as Route 32.
He stated he stopped and alighted from the car when he reached that portion of the road, but to his astonishment, five men emerged from the bush, one having a gallon of gasoline, who poured it on the vehicle and set it on fire.
He claimed the five people belonged to a rival faction in the village that was also vying for the kingship.
The driver stated that the vehicle caught fire but that they were able to escape.
Nana Anokyi, for his part, stated that he escaped through the rubber plantation and eventually arrived at Nyamebekyere's 32 Customs Duane barrier, where he reported the on-duty police of the incident.
He stated the driver was sent to the St. Martin De Porres Hospital in Eikwe, Ellembelle District, for treatment after suffering severe burns.
Meanwhile, DSP Valentine Akposu, the Ahanta-West Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Command has opened a probe into the matter.
He, on the other hand, remained tight-lipped about the situation.
