After their viral video was released on social media, two adolescent lovers — a tricycle driver and a ticket salesperson at the Wa Central Market in the Upper West Region – each suffered with 20 lashes.

After the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Area, Wa-Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, ordered their caning by several Wa youth, the teens were flogged.

As their actions were against the Waala Traditional Area's conventions and traditions, the two were beaten.
The two lovers were meant to take 100 canes apiece at first, but that number was reduced to 20.
After it was discovered that viral video were on the rise among the Wa municipality's youth, the Waala Traditional Area enacted a by-law outlawing such acts in late 2021.
According to the Waala Traditional Area's Overlord has warned that anyone who releases their viral video or baabs images will be subject to the Traditional Area's Bye-laws.
The elders were notified by community members who were dissatisfied with the advertisement. According to the report, the elders vowed to act if required.
This was done to discourage others from acting in the same manner.
