Two people were fined Gh600 by the Ashaiman Court for fighting.

Mike Kwesi Tetteh and Stephen Atila were fined Gh600 or served 12 months in prison with hard labor by the Ashaiman Circuit Court for breaching public peace during a quarrel at a drinking establishment.

Atila was also ordered to pay Gh2000 to Tetteh to cover his medical bills or face an additional 12-month sentence of hard labor if he did not.

After pleading guilty to charges of disturbing the public peace by fighting and quarreling, the two were punished by a court presided over by Mr. Richard Delali Anku.

Atila was also accused with causing Tetteh's left eye injury intentionally and unlawfully.

Tetteh, 43, and Atila, 34, both live at Community 22 Annex Ashaiman and are close friends, according to prosecutor Chief Inspector Samuel Aperweh.

Tetteh and Atila were together all day on March 15, 2022, according to the prosecution, drinking beer and dining together until about 2030 hours.

At around 2030 hours, a witness in the case met Tetteh and Atila at a drinking establishment in Community 22.

According to the prosecution, Tetteh and Atila had a disagreement. Tetteh hit Atila twice on the face in the heat of the misunderstanding, and Atila returned, resulting in a heated brawl between them.

As a result of the struggle, Tetteh's left eye was severely damaged. Tetteh and Atila were both arrested and taken before the District Crime Officer, according to the prosecution.

They were charged with the offenses after interrogation and brought before the court, which granted them bail to appear at a later date.

Atila allegedly jumped bail and fled to Assin Praso, according to the Chief Inspector.

Atila, on the other hand, was apprehended and brought back to court. They were both sentenced to prison after the trial.
